Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I apply to FOL?
A: Applications will be sent to all incoming freshmen in the middle of May 2009. The online registration will then be open and participants can then register.

Q: How do know if I am accepted?
A: Applications will be reviewed as they are received and you will be notified by email.

Q: How much does the conference cost?
A: The conference fee is $199. This fee covers all meals, lodging, conference t-shirt, workshops, and all other conference programming. If the fee poses a financial hardship, financial aid is available according to need.

    Q: Can I get a refund after I register?
A: You can get a refund if you contact Leadership Education by phone or email before August 1, 2009. NO REFUNDS will be given after August 1, 2009.

Q: How do I apply for financial aid?
A: Please contact us if you are interested in applying. We will then send you an application by email which needs to be completed and returned by August 1, 2009.

Q: Who decides the financial aid awarded?
A: A committee meets to review the applications. Decisions will be based on the information provided and the availability of the aid.

Q: How much should I state that I can pay when applying for financial aid?
A: Everyone is asked to pay something. Keep in mind that we want all who have a desire to attend Foundations of Leadership to be able to attend.

Q: When is the deadline for financial aid requests?
    A: August 1, 2009

Q: What do I bring to the conference?
A: Sleeping bag and pillow, clothing for two days, sweatshirt or light jacket for the cold evenings, towel, toiletries, scriptures, journal and pen, modest swimsuit, good walking shoes, alarm clock, rain gear, sunscreen, flashlight, water bottle, insect repellent, and camera. Remember to pack lightly! Everyone will carry their own belongings to their cabins and its uphill part of the way.

Q: How do I get to check-in on the day of the conference?
A: Print off map and driving directions here: Directions to FOL Registration.doc

Q: Where can I store my belongings during the conference?
A: Students that will be living in on-campus housing (Wyview, Helaman Halls, and Heritage Halls) during Fall Semester 2009 may store their belongings at those buildings during FOL. We cannot arrange storage for students that will live off-campus. We encourage you to make your own arrangements for storing your belongings with your landlord, a short-term storage unit, etc.

Q: When can I check into my dorm or on-campus housing?
A: You can check into Wyview, Helaman Halls, or Heritage Halls dorms at 8 am on Monday, August 24th. If you are registered for this conference, your belongings may be stored there until your return on Wednesday, August 26th.

Q: What do I do about moving in if I am going to live off-campus?
A: Unfortunately, we cannot arrange an early move-in date for students not living on campus.

Q: Does this conference conflict with New Student Orientation?
    A: No

Q: Does this conference conflict with other conferences or activities for students?
A: This conference does not conflict with Freshman Academy. It does, however, conflict with the Late Summer Honor Conference. It also conflicts with the Marching Band Camp because rehearsals can last all day. Because the Marching Band sends out confirmations throughout June, you can register for the Foundations of Leadership Conference, and if you get a position in the marching band, contact us before August 1, 2009 to cancel. You will receive a full refund if you contact us before that date.
